About School

School of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate (Digital Electronics and VLSI Design & Embedded system) and Doctoral program. The School of ECE has experienced faculty with expertise in the areas of VLSI, Embedded and Communication systems. The School of ECE has a strong industry and research connect with its Board of Studies (BoS) members comprising experts from academia and industry. The curricula for all the courses are designed with focus on the fundamentals enabling the students to facilitate experiential learning and research environment. School has state-of-art laboratory facilities in the areas of Communication, Networking, Signal Processing, Image Processing, Embedded Systems, Automotive Electronics and VLSI design to enable students to be industry ready.

 

The School has focused research groups and research cluster (ESDM) in areas of Communication and Networking, Signal processing and VLSI systems. The groups focus on the challenges, issues and latest ongoing trends to carry out the research activities. The curriculum structure provides opportunity for students to enhance their research skills and entrepreneur skills through REU program and projects under Center for Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CTIE). Student forums like IEEE student chapter, Robotics club, SAE offers opportunities for students to develop technical skills and soft skills. To foster research culture among students school has collaborative research projects with BOSCH, Continental, DST, IDH, DRDO, KPIT, MMRFIC and startups.

 

The school has strong bond with alumni who are in distinguished positions in industry and playing a vital role in the IT revolution placing Karnataka on the Global IT Landscape. Graduates from the department have found placement in major industries, civil services and multinational corporations such as BOSCH, KPIT, CISCO. Juniper Networks, IBM, Motorola, Siemens, Alcatel, Intel, Microsoft, ISRO, Mercedes Benz, Continental. Also many of them are successful entrepreneurs.

Initiatives

Automotive Electronics

Initiated to build strong institute-industry interaction between KLE Tech/BVBCET, Hubli, Robert Bosch, India (RBEI) and KPIT Ltd. This initiative provides a platform for showcasing latest technological advancements, their implementation and to develop the industry specific skills among the students. This initiative has contributed in Collaboration and MoU with automotive industries, Industry driven curriculum design with  laboratory set-up (BVB-Robert BOSH Automotive electronics Lab). In addition the collaboration also facilitates exposure to current technological requirements through expert lectures, training the faculty, technical resources sharing and industry guided projects. This initiation has resulted in preparing for industry (automotive/embedded) ready graduates leading to increased placement achievements at KPIT, BOSCH, Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Continental.

 

Prakalp

 

A joint venture of KLE Tech/BVBCET and Sankalp Semiconductors Private Limited to enhance teaching learning in electronic engineering education. An Industry- Academia engagement in the area of Analog VLSI for the students of ECE, EEE Engineering. The initiative exposes engineering students to the industrial work atmosphere and provides an opportunity for better placement in core industries like Cadence, NXP, Texas, Sankalp semiconductors, MMRFIC, Tessolve, etc.  A three credit course which student have to complete during the summer vacation of 2nd year and continues to build upon his/her competency through the next two years of mini, minor and capstone projects.

 

 

Foundation Skills in Integrated Product Development (FSIPD) Program:  An initiative of Industry, Academia & NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Service Companies)

The objectives of the program are to facilitate the acquisition of the foundation skills in the process, tools and techniques in the Integrated Product Development area of the Engineering Services industry. It also aims to provide the requisite understanding towards application of academic topics from engineering disciplines into real world engineering projects.

These objectives are achieved through:

a. Engineering Design as a core for all students during III Semester (Mechanical ) and IV Semester (Electronics)

b. Product Design & Realization as an  elective during summer vacation after completion of IV Semester.

 

Minor in Electronics

The Minor in Electronics offered is specifically designed to  enable the students from non-circuit  discipline to develop their basic competence in electronics and embedded systems relevant to their major disciplines, enhancing their career opportunities. This program enable students, understand the fundamentals of electronics through courses on Analog and Digital design, Signal handling and Embedded systems. Analyze, interface and control issues required for present day system design and applications. This provides an opportunity to gain competency in electronic areas, focusing more job opportunities and aiming for advanced studies. Students have to earn additional 15 credits in School of ECE along with their core department courses during 2nd to 3rd year of engineering.

 

Summer school in Image Processing, Computer Vision, Graphics and Machine learning (IPCVGML)

 

The objective of the program is to give basics, provide hands on research and project experience to 4th and 6th semester BE students in the area of Image processing, Computer Vision, Graphics and Machine Learning. The motivation is to educate students about the possibilities, rewards in these areas. The successful conduction of program and has paved the way for many startups and research in the area.
