Our Alma Mater, B. V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering & Technology, Hubli came to existence in the year 1947 with joint efforts of KLE Society, Belgaum and a Visionary Shri.B.V.Bhoomaraddi, an industrialist from Gadag, to provide engineering education to the people of North Karnataka and incidentally this was the year when Our Nation, INDIA also got independence.
It initially started as a Polytechnic in 1946 in Gadag, a town near to Hubli with Civil, Mechanical and Electrical branches and was later shifted to Hubli in 1947 and was affiliated to Bombay State. In 1950 it was raised to the status of a degree College. In the beginning, only Civil Engineering undergraduate course existed. Slowly Mechanical, Electrical Programs were added.
Later with technological changes happening, College raised its operations to twelve undergraduate and six postgraduate programs including research programs in four departments. MBA and MCA programs have also been included.
Till 1991, BVB alumni did not have a forum to come together, though 1983 and 1984 batch alumni had formed their groups and were interacting independently. During the year 1991, when Prof. V. S. Dhotrad was the Principal, Alumni Association came to existence with only about 39 members.
The Alumni Association, has been interactive since January, 2001 after Prof. Ashok S. Shettar has taken charge as Principal. Association was registered under Society’s Act on 12.12.2001. Prof.Ashok S. Shettar has been instrumental in organizing the First Alumni meet on the 4th February, 2001 in the college Gymkhana Hall. We are proud to state that Smt. Sudha Murty, (alumna of 1972 E&E) Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, India, is our Hon. President.
Association has been quite active organizing annual meets, Silver Jubilee meets from 1982 batch onwards.
Association has taken a unique project along with Vidya Poshak an NGO in Dharwad and College Management, called Nurture Merit @ BVBCET to provide holistic financial support to the needy and academically good students.
Association also joined hands with Alma Mater to construct a building to have its office and provide space for startups on the campus with a built up of 13000 sft. at a cost of Rs.1.5 crores. The building has been nearly complete and is named as KLE Tech Park, providing opportunities for high-end technologies companies to grow in Tier II city, Hubli.
Alumni have been equally participating in supporting the academic activities of the College and supporting the placement activities too.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all BVBians to continue to extend their cooperation in raising the academic excellence of Alma Mater to have Global Recognition.
