A team of 17 aero modelling enthusiasts from aeroKLE Club, KLE Technological University have secured an All-India first rank in Regular Class and a record All-India third rank on debut for Micro class, first rank in “Best Design Report” of micro class adding to a total cash prize of Rs. 1,35,000 out of 146 participant teams across India. The competition was held in SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, Tamil Nadu. The team designed, performed analysis and fabricated the aircrafts at Maker’s Space facility of the university.
The Regular Class level of the competition demanded the highest payload to be lifted, whereas the Micro Class level of the aircraft demanded the highest payload fraction, in order to top the scores, whilst conforming to the mechanical and electrical limitations as prescribed by SAE India. Team aeroKLE was successfully able to secure the highest payload and payload fraction in the two respective classes.
The students worked towards the mission for a year, designing and testing different prototypes, at the university premises, during which they optimised the final aircraft designs and submitted the technical design report, which was awarded as the ‘Best Technical Design Report’ at the event.
The event judged by experts from ISRO (Indian Space and Research Organisation), DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) and NAL (National Aerospace Laboratories) praised the team’s efforts in arriving at the design.
The team guided by Dr. B.B. Kotturshettar (Head, SME) and Professor G.M. Hiremath (Faculty Co-ordinator) consisted of Vineet Anand Bedarman (Captain), Amit Allimatti, Sayyed Ahmed Zuhair, Rohit Anvekar, Rahul Pattar, Shridhar Hadimani, Om Prakash Patel, Yajnesh Poojari, Koustubh Annigeri, Sujay C, Nilesh Bandekar, Mallikarjun Pattanshetty, Yeshwanth Kumar, Ajey Joshi, Alexsteven Dharmdas, Calvin Lobo and G.V.
