AICTE has started an IDEA (Idea, development, Evaluation and Application) LAB Scheme in AICTE affiliated institutes to encourage the students to apply the fundamentals of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics towards the enhanced hands-on experience.

The main objective of the IDEA Lab is to advance employment and self-employment potential of graduates from WBC and enhance innovativeness of companies by fostering students’ entrepreneurship, creation of business start-ups and open innovation approach in collaboration between universities and enterprises Institutions are primary sources of new knowledge production and innovation for technological change in vital segments of economy.

Therefore knowledge and technology transfer from institutes is an extremely important factor. The IDEA lab, student centered co-creative ecosystem with its specific goals, and expected impact. IDEA lab represents an innovative way to link institutes and industry as well as to include students in technology transfer. Inventive IDEA laboratory endow with the state of art facility for the students to take up multidisciplinary/Interdisciplinary projects (MDP/IDP) and internships.

It also helps in collaborating with industry which will enrich the student’s need-based and innovative project ideas. The collaboration with industries and institutions will expedite the process of design and development of products from Lab to market by providing as a training ground to students with right tools for experimentation. It also provides end to end facilities for product development and Start-ups at affordable prices. The Faculty development programs (FDPs), multidisciplinary projects and research projects through IDEA Laboratory with High tech equipments will offer all facilities & services required for faculty in research and development.

The integration IDEA Lab with existing Advanced Laboratory facilities such as learning factory, skill development centre,

IOT/embedded laboratories and best practices (Mini/Minor/Micro/MDP/IDP projects) of institution will confer multi-dimensions to the innovative ideas of students from prototype to product level. The students and faculty will have the platform to improve their skills in transforming the challenges in real time ideas into solutions in practice thus by nurturing their creativity. The main Vision of the AICTE IDEA Lab is to leverage and explore innovation ecosystem of faculty and students to achieve an innovation-driven, self-reliant and entrepreneurial enabled for building strong environment in straightening the multifaceted real time societal challenges.

The IDEA Lab is a new initiative on campus designed to inspire students from different majors, backgrounds, and perspectives to come together to work on big, real-world issues. Using a design thinking process, students work in teams across multidisciplinary branches – such as electronics and communication, computer science, mechanical engineering, bio-medical engineering etc., to tackle any complex problem of society.

IDEA Lab network will encourage and foster students’ entrepreneurial intent and also supports open innovation approach. Specific objectives are :

  • To set up, equip and network co-creative IDEA labs to support students to generate, develop and commercialize their own innovative ideas through entrepreneurship and/or open innovation
  • To foster student entrepreneurship and start-up creation at institute by improving infrastructure, entrepreneurial culture and skills
  • To introduce and implement open innovation as a new form of partnership among key stakeholders in knowledge triangle in WBC.
  • To revise and adapt curricula to include entrepreneurial skills and problem-based learning.
