Civil engineering focuses on the infrastructure requirements for various Human activities which includes Housing,

Water works, Sewers, Dams, Power Plants, Transmission Towers/Lines, Railroads, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Irrigation Canals, River Navigation, Shipping Canals, Traffic Control, Mass Transit, Airport Runways, Terminals, Industrial Plant Buildings, Skyscrapers, etc.


Courses in civil engineering include foundation subjects concerning designing, building and managing infrastructure elements. The program has a wide range of lab experiences that provide practical hands-on exposure. In the senior years, students can choose specialisms within the program in structural engineering, transportation engineering, Construction management, geotechnical engineering, or water resources engineering. The coursework is complemented with interventions to sharpen or develop soft skills like communication, teamwork, and critical thinking, which are essential for a successful career. From the first to the final year, students have opportunities to carry out several projects in which student teams, working with faculty/industry mentors, put their knowledge to work on a real-world issue to find innovative solutions to engineering problems. The program also offers the option of doing an internship with industry or research labs.

  • Engineering knowledge:

    Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization for the solution of complex engineering problems.

  • Problem analysis:

    Identity, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

  • Design/Development of Solutions:

    Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

  • Conduct investigations of complex problems:

    Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

Proficiency in a specialized area: Demonstrate proficiency in one of the following specialized areas of Civil Engineering

  • Principles of civil engineering: Ability to apply principles of civil engineering for the entire life cycle of the project ranging from initial design to the closure of the project.
  • Identify and analyse construction materials: Ability to identify and analyze various properties of construction materials and their applications in design and construction of various structures.
  • Eligibility Criteria

    Karnataka B.Tech applicants must have passed PUC (Class 12) with at least 45% of marks.

    The applicants must have studied Class 12 with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science as the main subjects.

    The applicants must have a valid KCET or COMEDK UGET or JEE Main score to secure B.Tech admission in Karnataka.
